Light sources

zzzR001114

Part of a professional photograpgy is the light settings they use. Getting the lighting condition is vital to how good your product will look. There are some very simple solutions as for light sources.

Lets see:

Tripod and Clip Lamp

Clip lamps are gaining popularity everyday. They are rather handy for your photography. While it is suggested that direct flash photography should be avoided at close range, some fluoroscent light can fill the gap rather easily.
Note: While picking the light, go for the cool light (rather than the 'warm' ones)

Halogen Light

Something similar to this halogen light can be found in just about any hardware shop. The one pictured takes a 500w halogen bulb, and that was more than sufficiant.

Personally I abandoned the halogen light in favour of the clip on lamp, as halogen lights tend to get very hot, and they consume too much power. The clip on the other hands is rather handy for positioning anywhere around the product.

Generally however, diffused sunlight can be the best solution. Say light coming through the curtain, or sunlight reflected off a white wall. These can be used as a good alternate light source. Care should be taken while photographing objects under direct sunlight, as sunlight (particularly during midday) has a tendency to burn the details of your picture. It may be a fine idea for cars, or large out door items. Things like colourful clothing, jewellery, or any shiny or polished object may loose detail under harsh sunlight.
