Palit 8400GS 512MB HDMI
Both nVidia and ATI has all the market area covered starting from the low end to the top end. If there is a need there is a card to meet it. For the ultra low range product, there is 8400GS. There are many different manufacturers making 8400GS and Palit happens to be there to grab its slice of the cake.
What does set this card a little apart from the other cards on its range is the HDMI port. With different kind of devices being able to exchange data, HDMI port is a simple bridge that can take high quality media to your entertainment system.
The build quality of the card is decent with the basics covered. The card uses a fan while a larger heatsink could have done the cooling without a fan, but it is not a noisy card. Total silence would have been great though, be it for peace of mind!
As far as 3D performance goes, we could not expect much to begin with. That is to say we can not play games like Crysis or Dirt in full blast. However, it will still run those light and colorful nursery rhyme software just fine. However, it makes a perfect investment sense, if you are looking forward to Blueray movies. Not all cards has blueray capabilities to start with, this 8400GS will see to that without breaking your bank.
The package contents are pretty basic. There is a driver disc, and two low profile brackets, and that is about it.
Overall the card is simple and effective for what it is meant to do. With support of resolution of 1920x1200 and dual display support, you can have plenty of desktop realestate. Best of all, your TV can be used as a monitor too. If all these features are to be used, this card packs good value for money, however, not much in the way of gaming though.
Begs the question though, what is all that memory for?
